Day 11

It was a peaceful Sunday. In the morning we participated in a celebration high school and college students put on for community organizer and mentor extraordinaire Conchita Montes; then spent a lazy afternoon at Poneloya beach contemplating the rain and ocean. In between, we visited a community called San Claudio in the town of Malpaisillo that has put out a call for help building a church, which they hope to do on this site, maybe in the shadow of this Jicaro Tree (or, some suggested, maybe around the tree, so that it grows inside the building.)

The Imagination Federation has no affiliation with any church or government (neither U.S. nor Nicaraguan). We define ourselves by the way we listen to the community voicing its needs. We certainly make choices about what's right, yet at the same time try hard not to impose our biases. We are open to working with anyone, regardless of their own affiliations, who respects these basic principles of independence and diversity.

I also believe that we are an organization that can feed the souls of those who seek such sustenance, that service is ultimately a spiritual pursuit. Felt God's love today in the eyes of students expressing gratitude to their mentor, in the ocean, in the tree bursting with life, in the cross San Claudio holds sacred. We will keep this effort totally separate from our main educational mission, but will invite members and supporters, if they wish, to reach out to their diverse spiritual communities with the specific goal of aiding San Claudio feed its spirit in the way it sees fit.
