Day 4

Nuevo Amanecer. One of our biggest contributions was a few hundred pounds of clothing donations, which we sold to the community in a bazzar (top). The $140 people paid will be returned to them, reinvested in development projects. On the bottom is me someplace I love to be, around amazing women. From left to right is Emily Sendin, chair of the Imagination Federation; Dona Tina, a Nuevo resident who, in the traditional Nica way, always indulges us with treats as visitors even if she doesn't have much for herself; and Conchita Montes, a remarkable community organizer and mentor from Chacraseca who helps coordinate the Nuevo projects among many others.
Nuevo Amanecer. Even in the harshest poverty, humanity manages to burst through in vivid colors, all the time. We had fun busting a pinata with the kids (top right). You can also see one of the rainwater cisterns so crucial to Nuevo's survival (bottom center).

Nuevo Amanecer. Hard to serve together without loving each other.
